What was the challenge?
Students needed additional support to complete a formative reflective assessment. The aim was to provide structured guidance while encouraging students to think critically and use AI as learning support rather than allowing it to generate the assessment.
What did you do?
Designed an AI prompt for students, created instructional videos explaining how to use the prompt, embedded the activity within PebblePad journals, and guided students to develop their own reflective work using AI as one stage of the learning process.
Multimodal Use
The activity combined AI-generated prompts, written guidance, PebblePad journals, instructional videos and interactive learning materials. AI supported one stage of the workflow rather than replacing the whole activity.
What did this look like in practice?
Students accessed PebblePad guidance videos, followed written instructions, used AI prompts to generate ideas and then completed their reflective journals. Supporting screenshots and PebblePad Help Hub resources can accompany this case study.
What was the impact?
The approach reduced the time needed to create learning resources and demonstrated how AI could scaffold reflective learning. Although student uptake was modest, the resources encouraged responsible AI use and supported independent learning.
Ethical or practical considerations?
Students were encouraged to evaluate AI outputs critically rather than copy them. Digital confidence, internet access, transparency and academic integrity were important considerations.
