Northampton subjects number one in country for student satisfaction

Date 8.07.2026

With two subjects at number one in the country, seven others in the top 10 and two more in the top 20, University of Northampton (UON) tops the tables once again as students have their say on the quality of their course, tutors and their overall experience of studying.

One of the largest surveys of its kind in the world, the National Student Survey (NSS) conducted by the Office for Students (OfS), gathers final year students’ opinions on the quality of every university subject in the country.

UON’s courses in English Studies and Dental Nursing were rated at number one in the country for student satisfaction, Artificial Intelligence was ranked third and Learning Disabilities Nursing came in fourth.

The overall average positivity score of students has gone up from last year to an impressive 84.2% (from 83.4% in 2025). With ‘teaching on my course’ up to 86.4% and ‘academic support’ up as well to 86.9%.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, Alice Wilby said: “There are lots of ways of measuring the impact of a university, but the NSS reflects the voice of the people who matter most; our students.

“Results like this can only happen thanks to academic and professional service colleagues who don’t just think of working at a university as a job, but as a lifelong commitment to providing opportunities and fulfilling careers to others.

“We’ll be analysing the results more deeply over the coming days to find out where we can get even better at what we do, but prospective students and their guardians can have faith they will have a positive experience when studying at University of Northampton.”

Other top ten courses are Marketing and Journalism both in sixth place, Sport and Exercise Science, and Management Studies in seventh, Geography in ninth, with History following in 12th and Mental Health Nursing in 13th.

Over three quarters of final year UON students responded to the OfS Survey and were asked 27 questions covering themes including: teaching on my course, learning opportunities, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, and student voice – the extent which they feel their feedback is acted upon.
