Research, Knowledge Exchange
and Enterprise

A strong focus on applied, real-world research that delivers tangible benefits to businesses and the wider community demonstrates the research expertise of Northampton Business School in action. Our activity is structured around key themes and a collaborative approach.

Key Research Themes and Centres

Northampton Business School’s research is concentrated in a few impactful areas, housed within dedicated research centres:

Sustainability and Responsible Business
This is a core strength. The Centre for Sustainable Business Practices focuses on research into corporate social responsibility, supply chain management, and the broader environmental and social impact of business activities.

Global Collaboration
The business school has a notable focus on international business, particularly with emerging economies. The Centre for Global Economic and Social Development (GESD) and other research initiatives examine collaboration with regions like China and developing countries in Africa, providing unique insights into global trade and economic development.

Small Business and Entrepreneurship
Research expertise here is directly linked to the faculty’s Small Business Charter accreditation. The focus is on supporting entrepreneurship and providing data-driven solutions and consultancy to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to help them innovate and grow.

Applied and Collaborative Research

Knowledge Exchange
Northampton Business School’s research activity focuses on sharing knowledge with partners, businesses and our community. This is done through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), where academic expertise is applied directly to business challenges, and through consultancy services.

Interdisciplinary Approach
Research is often a blend of different disciplines, including accounting, marketing, strategy, and management, to provide holistic solutions to complex business problems.

Student Engagement
Northampton Business School ensures that research directly informs teaching and student projects. Students get to work on real-world business challenges, allowing them to apply their learning and contribute to NBS research.
