University’s spring ceremonies welcome four new honorands and over 1,300 graduates

University of Northampton’s latest crop of professionals are ready to boost businesses, add to the arts, help our health and more now they are graduates.

This week, eight Graduation ceremonies were held at Royal & Derngate theatre over three days which means that:

  • 1,370 students crossed the Derngate stage and celebrated being graduates.
  • They were joined by over 3,500 family and friends.
  • 260 staff helped at the events or walked in the traditional processions.

The University also officially congratulated 22 students who went the extra mile during their studies with special awards and citations. Posthumous awards were granted to Diana Dafter (Adult Nursing) and Cody Stock (Creative Television, Film & Digital Media Production).

Academic Claire Paterson-Young officially received her Professorship. Professor Paterson‑Young joined the University in 2015, completed her PhD in 2018, and is now Research Leader at the Institute for Social Innovation and Impact. Her practice‑informed research spans youth justice, safeguarding, vulnerability and the ethics of emerging technologies, such as AI in policing.

The ceremonies also welcomed four new members of the University’s ‘family’ of honorands:

Richard Clinton – Honorary Fellowship. Richard has led Delapré Abbey in Northampton since his appointment as Chief Executive in April 2020, having previously held posts such as Commercial Development Manager at the University of Northampton Students’ Union.

Dr Sue Dutton – Honorary Fellowship. Dr Dutton has extensive teaching and managerial experience in education and was a member of the University’s Board of Governors, which included a period as Deputy Chair and Acting Chair of the Board.

Nathan Ghann – Honorary Fellowship. Nathan is a Student Success Practitioner, Higher Education consultant and public speaker.

Rachel Mallows – Honorary Fellowship. Rachel Mallows is a prominent figure in Northamptonshire, known for her extensive experience in business and community support.
