The Halls I chose and why

When I was choosing my accommodation, I decided on the standard single room type, in one of the Townhouses, in which there are 11 other people. At UON, there are various household types you can pick from, I chose a Single-Sex household.

I picked a townhouse because I wanted something affordable and on campus for my 1st Year, allowing me to settle into university life.

What I like about living in accommodation

One of my favourite things about living in accommodation is that I have met so many people from different backgrounds, which has meant that I have learned about meals and languages of various cultures. Additionally, I like that you don’t know who you’re going to share with, you can meet people from different courses, and form friendships that you otherwise wouldn’t have made.

Living in accommodation is extremely student friendly and being on campus allows quick access to the various on campus facilities, e.g the library in the Learning Hub, and the student events, such as the Music Bingo at the Waterside Bar.

How affordable accommodation helped me save money

For accommodation, one of the ways the University of Northampton makes it more affordable is by organising the rent so that you pay it in three installments, once payed, whatever money is leftover is yours to spend for the rest of the term! This has meant that I have been able to focus on budgeting how much money to spend on food, washing and the occasional night out for each week. This means I can save money for going out for dinner or lunch with friends and family or occasionally going shopping in town, and being able to have fun when I can.

What is included in halls

In the student halls there are a wide range of facilities which can be used anytime, including a laundry room equipped with multiple washers and dryers, which is where students can do their washing at any time of the day.

Secondly the kitchen and communal area, is equipped with various appliances, including cookers, toasters, microwaves, fridges/freezers, etc., with each kitchen having recycling and waste bins, a seating area to eat meals with your housemates.

Furthermore, the bathroom facilities include a shower, toilet and sink, for me I share with one other person, however some rooms offer en-suites. Finally, every accommodation comes with free-internet access, heating, lighting and water, which is included in your rent, and 24-hour security to keep students safe.

Further relevant information about halls

Lastly, another key thing about living in halls is that there are shops such as Morrisons, B&M, and ASDA nearby, all of which are affordable and within walking distance, making it easy and affordable to do your weekly shop.

I’m a First Year BSc Psychology student, and the main thing I love about my course is that some of the modules explore various aspects of a specific area of psychology, e.g. Positive Psychology. One fun fact about me is that I have an incredible memory when it comes to dates and I enjoy reading, walking my dog and spending time with my friends. In my spare time I like to read my book, I’m currently reading “The Story Collector” By Evie Woods and I also like to listen to music.
