New scholarship announced at the British Ambassador’s Residence highlights growing education collaboration between the UK and Vietnam.
University of Northampton has announced a new £12,000 IMPACT Scholarship for Vietnamese students at a high-level partnership event held at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Hanoi, Vietnam, on 10 March 2026.
The event, titled “University of Northampton Partnership Reception,” brought together education partners, representatives from the British Embassy in Hanoi, British Council Vietnam, government stakeholders, academics, business leaders and alumni to celebrate and expand education collaboration between Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
Speaking at the event, H.E. Ambassador Iain Frew praised the university’s long-standing engagement in Vietnam and its contribution to strengthening education links between the two countries.
“I am genuinely delighted and deeply impressed by the scale of UON’s footprint in Vietnam. This is a university that has been quietly and consistently building bridges for over two decades,” he said. “Through long-standing partnerships with local universities, UON has enabled Vietnamese students to access full UK-validated degrees right here at home.”
Each year, around 80 to 100 Vietnamese students study at the University of Northampton in the UK, while approximately 300 additional students are enrolled in collaborative programmes delivered in Vietnam.
“These are not just numbers; they represent families who have placed their confidence in UK education, and in the University of Northampton specifically. They also represent future leaders who will shape Vietnam’s continued development”, Ambassador Frew said.
In her remarks, Becky Bradshaw, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer of the University of Northampton, highlighted the vital role of education in strengthening the partnership between the United Kingdom and Vietnam. She noted the university’s more than 15 years of collaboration with Vietnamese institutions through joint research, academic partnerships and student mobility initiatives.
She reaffirmed the university’s mission to transform lives and communities through social impact and announced the launch of the IMPACT Scholarship for Vietnamese students, designed to recognise individuals who demonstrate academic excellence and meaningful contributions to society. Bradshaw also celebrated the growing Vietnamese student and alumni community at Northampton and emphasised the university’s commitment to expanding partnerships, research collaboration and two-way mobility between the UK and Vietnam.
The IMPACT Scholarship is not only a form of financial support but also reflects the University’s educational philosophy of encouraging students to develop innovative thinking, strengthen their sense of social responsibility, and create positive and sustainable impact within their communities.
