University at the heart of the latest Northampton TEDx event

Date 20.02.2026

When the renowned platform for sharing ideas that change the world returns to the county, the University of Northampton (UON) will be at the heart of the show.

TEDx is the grassroots version of the globally recognised TED Talks which has shared some of the most profound and far-reaching ideas of the 21st century.

When TEDx returns to the county on Saturday 7 March at the Icon Innovation Centre in Daventry, experts in leadership, a master craftsman, an international journalist and one of the curators of the county’s motorsport heritage will be joined by UON’s Professor Simon Sneddon, and Rebecca Steers, Station Manager at NLive Radio which is part of the UON family.

Nick Allen, UON Policy and Public Affairs Officer is also at the heart of the organising committee in an operations support role.

Nick said: “We have to credit Damon Boughen and Shanu Patil who came up with the idea of bringing TEDx back to the county and invited the University to support the event.

“But it’s a real seal of approval for the county, TEDx are very focussed in terms of who they will collaborate with and whether they reflect the ideals of the original TED Talks and feature ideas worth sharing.

“Part of the strength of the platform is their immense reach on social media. Long after 7 March you will see short sections of the Northampton TEDx filtered into your timelines and news feeds.

“But the real impact of these events is what happens when the audience or people who watch online take ideas away and then generate new ways of thinking or new ways of doing things.”

With the theme for the Northampton TEDx set as Unfolding Futures, Professor Sneddon will be talking about green technology and the risk that solutions to today’s environmental issues will be the cause of a different set of environmental or social problems.

Rebecca from NLive Radio will be speaking about the importance of protecting and strengthening truly local media, giving communities a voice, and ensuring local radio continues to thrive in an increasingly centralised media landscape.

Other speakers include leadership and organisational performance specialist, Aaron Thompson MBE, leather expert Dean Westmoreland who’s appeared on BBC’s The Repair Shop, and broadcast journalist and public speaking coach Louise Beale.
