Fantastic Opportunities offered as a Student of the Arts at the University of Northampton

8.01.2026If you’re interested in studying a course relating to the arts, this blog is for you!
As a Popular Music student, I am heavily involved in the arts at UON. I have three other flatmates who study other courses relating to the industry, such as acting, art and music production, so I am also very present at events surrounding those subjects. For that reason, I have a great deal of experience with the arts as a whole at UON and will serve as a guide to the fantastic range of opportunities we offer.
Due to the University’s origin as a combination of different colleges, there are a lot of practical based courses here. Whether you’re interested in film, graphic design or even make up and prosthetics, there’s something here for you!
Incentives and Opportunities
A great incentive to study an arts course in Northampton is the great amount of collaboration that can occur between subjects. For example, I have recently been writing the soundtrack for a western-based short film, helping out a film student, whilst using an art student to help create the logo for my band and also a production student to produce our music! Using our learning platform “NILE”, students can interact with each other and find people to help with their projects, whether they be assignments or extra-curricular.

Course Events
Another reason to study here is the number of events held amongst the arts faculty annually. For music students, there are two gig opportunities a year to perform in, as well as great ties with the Northampton Music Festival. For acting, there are several performances, and for other subjects there are showcases as well. These events are always well received, and you can find several blog posts written by me about them too!

If any of this seems interesting to you, make sure attend one of our open days and speak to lecturers and students about the opportunities we provide.
