University of Northampton lecturer strengthens student pathways with elite FA medical qualification

Date 24.11.2025

Congratulations to Brendon Skinner, Course Leader for Sport Rehabilitation and Conditioning at the University of Northampton, who has successfully completed his training to award qualifications on behalf of the English and Welsh Football Association’s medical faculties.

Brendon has completed his tutor training to delivery the Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF), an FA-approved trauma credential recognised as the second-highest level of sport trauma training in football and accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons.

His achievement brings significant benefits to students, as Sport Rehabilitation and Conditioning undergraduates will complete the Level 4 ITMMiF qualification at the end of their degree programme, free of charge, as part of their British Association of Sport Rehabilitators (BASRaT) eligibility requirements.

As a member of both the English and Welsh FA medical faculties, Brendon is uniquely positioned to deliver this advanced qualification to final-year students. ITMMiF is one of the most respected pitch-side trauma credentials in the industry, enabling graduates to step directly into professional roles as soon as they complete their degree.

Speaking about the development, Brendon said: “With the FAW and English FA joining forces to raise the standards of healthcare professionals in football, staff like myself – who work across both faculties – can now deliver a unified, high-quality qualification to our students.

“The importance of achieving this qualification before graduation cannot be overstated. Our students have already seen outstanding success, securing roles with major clubs including Queens Park Rangers, Nottingham Forest, Northampton Town, and Birmingham City. One student even impressed so much on the day of his assessment that he was approached and invited to join Crystal Palace the following week.

“At the University of Northampton, we are passionate about delivering high-quality education. But it’s equally vital for us that our students enter the industry with real-world experience and the advanced skills and qualifications needed to make an immediate impact.”
