Why I chose the Free Laptop student perk

Date 21 November 2025

As a student, I needed something to help me write my essays, research, and most importantly watch films (haha). So I chose the free laptop option for my student perk and it saved me the cost of buying a new one.

Deciding on my perk

When I first looked at the student perks, I was immediately drawn to the £500 accommodation discount as I thought it would suit me best. However, before the first semester began, I changed my perk to the free laptop one, as my previous laptop was not going to last the duration of my course!

The laptop perk

Between my lectures, online classes, and my assignments, my old laptop was running unbearably slow. It would take ages to load and buffer at the worst times, not to mention the extremely loud fan noises, which didn’t help when studying in a silent library. That’s when I decided that I would switch my initially chosen perk for the laptop perk option instead, and that was the best decision I could’ve made. The new laptop was not only bigger but more recent, and reliable in comparison to my old one. It was much better for both my study sessions, and my movie nights – the best thing was I didn’t have to pay for it!

Plus once the work is done, I could is switch to Netflix and reward my hard work with a nice chick flick. That’s what I call Balance!

Why student perks are great

Choosing what would really pay off in the long run was really important. I might’ve had £500 off my rent but that would only be beneficial for my first year. This laptop would last the entirety of my course and even longer, so I know I made the right decision!
