The Switch.
In 2023, I had originally been on the BSc Occupational Therapy course, which I spent a year in, however, I knew that in the January that the course wasn’t for me. I switched courses in Summer 2024 to BA Multimedia Sports Journalism which was the course that felt right.
Why did I change courses?
I changed courses mainly because I realised that what I was going into was not for me, I was out of my depths and felt insecure in how I was individually progressing. I was doing well in some areas but in other areas I was not as strong. It wasn’t until my placement in Spring 2024 that I knew that Occupational Therapy was not for me.
I changed courses because Occupational Therapy was something I did not feel passionate about, it didn’t suit me. However, I knew about the Multimedia Sports Journalism course as I had originally considered it as one of my options. It was at that moment I decided that this course was right for me.
I knew that I would basically be studying for another year at university, but that was fine with me, as I knew that choosing something I loved to study enabled me to gain many skills and find the course more enjoyable.

How did I do it?
Firstly, I had to really think about it and talk about changing courses with my parents but also my Personal Tutor, she was able to thoroughly help me alongside the head of the course as I prepared my details in order to switch courses.
However, before even discussing it, I emailed the senior lecturer at the time and I asked if I could meet him to talk about me joining the course in September 2024, he agreed. We spoke in the Creative Hub about the course, and I got to see some of the equipment used for the Multimedia Sports Journalism course and also I got to speak to a student on the course too.
I then went through with the switch. I emailed academic advisors, whilst also filling in the forms required to switch, it was a little bit stressful as there was a lot of components, like finance and also ensuring I would actually be accepted onto the course, which thankfully I was.
My words of advice would be, do it, it is not never too late to change.
It was the best thing I could have possibly done as I am now, one year on, way happier in this course.
