Why I Decided to Stay Local
When it came time to choose a university, I looked at all of my options, moving away, new cities, new environments, but ultimately, staying local and studying at the University of Northampton just felt right.
The Course I Wanted, Close to Home
UON offered the exact course I was passionate about: Psychological Science of Sports and Exercise Science. It’s packed with practical elements, scientific insight, and great opportunities for future careers in fitness, rehab, or coaching which also meant I didn’t have to move far to find the right fit academically.
Saving Money, Gaining Peace of Mind
University life can be expensive. By staying local I’ve saved a lot on general living costs as I already knew the town and the best places to shop. It has made managing finances a lot less stressful, allowing me to focus on my studies, and paint the occasional Warhammer miniature in my down time!

Support from Family and Friends
One of the biggest benefits of staying local is being close to the people who matter most. Knowing that I can go home for dinner one night and talk things through with my family, or catching up with my old friends really does help, especially when university life gets intense.
No Regrets About Staying Local
Choosing a local university doesn’t mean you will miss out on the student experience. I’m still meeting new people, trying new things, and growing as a person, all while staying grounded in a place I know and love. For me, it’s been the best of both worlds.
