Why I chose my course

If you were to ask me a few years back what I envisioned myself, I would’ve said, “To be part of making a difference in Cambodia.” That dream still stands tall, but now I’m halfway there. I am heading towards it with purpose, a plan, and a solid BSc Accounting and Finance course at the University of Northampton! Allow me to tell you why this feels so right for me, and perhaps it’ll inspire you too.

Numbers, But Make It Global

A lot of people look over accounting courses so much. Honestly! It is a safe degree to have. Accounting and finance isn’t just crunching numbers – it’s building futures. For me, it’s the foundation of sustainable businesses, sound governance, and economic growth. I chose this course because I don’t merely want to just be employable…I must be effective. Whether I’m scaling startups or informing financial policy in my native country of Cambodia, this course gives me the means to do it.

Three students sat at the window of Waterside campus on sofas chatting.

The Uni That Opens Doors

What drew me to the University of Northampton was more than rankings or glossy brochures (although, let’s be honest – they are pretty great). It was the sense that this university got it. They get ambition, they nurture potential, and most of all – they open doors.

From career and internship fairs to professional mentorship, the support is unimaginable. I truly do feel like I’m building a global network that I’ll carry with me wherever I go, including all back to home, where I hope to be valuable to my country’s growth and innovation.

A Place That Feels Like Peace

The Waterside Campus? Calm. Peaceful. Inspiring. The people? So friendly and accessible – they do want us to succeed. The atmosphere? Faultless. There’s such a feeling of community here, and I never feel like just a student ID number. I feel supported.

The Bigger Picture

Studying abroad sounds like a dream to everyone. But it is a brave choice and not always the easiest. It takes courage, hope, dedication and seeing the bigger picture. That image is very clear to me; I want to learn, grow, and come back with the knowledge that can be utilised to serve my country. The University of Northampton is making it possible for me to do exactly that. So here I am – ambitious, caffeinated, and on a mission. And if you’re pondering this course or uni? I’d say, just do it. If you have that dream, take the first step. Your future self (and your country!) will thank you.

With love and ledgers,

Angie
