Why I chose the University of Northampton to do my Masters
Date 26 September 2025
26.09.2025I chose the University of Northampton for my MSc in Computing (Software Engineering) as an international student from India, and here's why.
A Well-Rounded Decision
Choosing to study for a master’s degree overseas is a significant move. I had done intense research about this university, including factors such as fees, university rankings in the UK, course duration, employability, place, and most importantly, the curriculum. The most remarkable aspect was UON’s ability to balance academic excellence, career support, and affordability – which are all crucial elements for me as an international student from India. My decision also considered the professors on the course – what are their qualifications and publications, from where they pursued their studies.
Why Northampton?
My previous education was from the same field, which was a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering, so the content as well as the context of the course provided in this university aligns perfectly. Also, Northampton is close to some major cities like London, Oxford, Leicester, and many more.
The reason for selecting this particular university was due to the facilities provided over here. I have compared all my aspects of support and found that the University of Northampton provides immense support and guidance to students in all aspects of student life ranging from living to studying, health, and any activities.

Career-Focused Learning
UON has resources such as Student Futures and Unitemps where students can seek internships, part-time jobs, or full-time jobs as well. The university also provides help in making CVs as per profession and guides you on all things employment. They organise several events during the year, which help tackle all kinds of career problems that students face normally and career fairs where different departments and employers visit the university to hire and have a chat with the students.
Life Beyond the Classroom
I also value the diversity of the student community; you can meet new people from across the globe. There is also an on-campus restaurant known as Waterside Bar where each week various games and karaoke are organised to enjoy. During the weekends, I take pleasure in discovering Indian restaurants in the area, enjoying tranquil moments in nearby parks, visiting campus and working on assignments or tests, or simply relaxing on the campus.
Opting for UON was among the wisest choices I’ve made, and I look forward to discovering where this journey leads me.
