Health and Social Care Practice BA Welcome Pack

Welcome to the BA (Hons) in Health and Social Care Practice 2026

Thank you for choosing this exciting course that will get you thinking about how health and social care impacts individuals and communities living in the UK and internationally. You will have a chance to explore different subjects related to cultures, policies, working with others, finding solutions and technology, for example.

The world is changing and if you want to become a person who cares about social justice, equity and human rights, then this is the course for you. You will have the opportunity to develop your academic and professional skills in a variety of ways, such as writing about case studies, producing posters, talking about issues and reflecting about your experiences.

In the second year of your studies, you will have an opportunity to have a placement where you can apply your learning in a practical way.  Previous students have had positive experiences where they have a greater understanding of an organisation, increase of self-confidence and making decisions about future career paths.

In the third year, you will be focussing on leadership, sustainable solutions and either undertaking a dissertation or a service improvement plan. These modules will support your journey into employment.

You will have the opportunity to meet employers and external speakers, who can talk about the reality of working in this diverse sector.

There are expectations that if you choose this course that you are at least reliable, curious, attend regularly, willing to learn and willing to be open to new approaches.  You can expect the teaching team to do the same and in addition be understanding, supportive and willing to listen.

During the first week, you will meet your personal tutor, who will be the main contact throughout your stay at university.
