Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching (FDLT) Welcome Pack

Welcome to Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching (FDLT) 2022.

The Foundation Degree in Learning & Teaching is a two-year programme equivalent to the first two years of a Bachelor’s degree. It is designed for Teaching Assistants and other school support staff to gain a recognised qualification specific to their role, provides a strong foundation from which to progress onto a top-up BA year and can support career progression.

The overall aims of the course are:

  • to develop your understanding of children’s learning and build on your ability to raise pupil achievement, as well as looking at some of the wider aspects of school provision.
  • to encourage you to analyse your work in the context of best practice, relevant principles and research.

The subjects covered during the first year include pupil engagement, pupil assessment, the teaching of English and Maths, using digital technologies to support learning and an introduction to Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), as well as developing your reflective skills.
