The University of Northampton is committed to supporting the development of innovation and inventions via spinout company formation to further economic and social impact. We welcome TenU’s University Spin-out Investment Terms (USIT) Guides (TenU USIT Guide and TenU USIT for Software Guide) and the Government’s Independent Review of University Spin-outs. We fully adopt the recommendations.
The UON Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Policy has been updated to reflect the recommendations (including guidance on starting equity stakes).
A process for assessment of commercial opportunities is in place and a suite of standard legal templates for company formation is being developed to facilitate the efficient progression through the process. Timescales for company formation will depend on the complexity of the deal, and we commit to expediting spinout company activity whilst adhering to appropriate due diligence procedures.
Staff can access the UON intranet pages Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Information [log-in required] where additional information on process is provided.
We will continually monitor developments in the university spinout ecosystem and endeavour to be aligned with and responsive to adoption of best practice within the sector.
