Work begins to widen Bedford Road

Date 27.07.2016

From Tuesday 3 May, works will begin to widen a stretch of the Bedford Road (A428), running from Cliftonville to Nunn Mills Road. The roadworks are part of the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus development, which will regenerate a 58 acre brownfield site, creating a brand new £330million campus.

The road works will see improvements to the existing pedestrian crossings on Bedford Road, enhanced access to Beckett’s Park and Midsummer Meadow, improvements to the pedestrian walkways on the north side of the River Nene and road junction improvements.

The roadworks are supported by the construction of a new single carriageway road bridge, which will link the Bedford Road into the new campus across the River Nene. Once complete the bridge will span both the river and the new riverside footpaths creating an unimpeded walk along the river bank. A new footbridge, linking Beckett’s Park with the Waterside Campus and on to Delapre Abbey is also under construction.
