The Rt Hon Vince Cable, MP for Twickenham, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade, visited Silverstone University Technical College (UTC) on Thursday 7 November.

The Silverstone UTC offers technical specialisms in high performance engineering and events management, and opened in partnership with the University of Northampton in September 2013 in a brand new building at the world famous Silverstone racing circuit.

In conversation with John Sinclair, Deputy Dean of the School of Science and Technology, Mr Cable praised the University for its employability figures.

Talking about the Silverstone UTC, Mr Cable commented: “It’s about getting young people focused in potential engineering careers at a younger stage than we normally would. We are desperately short of skilled and trained engineers and the UTC will certainly make a big contribution to this. The feedback I have had on UTCs has been very positive and they have wonderful facilities.”
