University supports fight against food poverty in Northampton

Date 25.02.2021

The University of Northampton has supported local food banks with a bumper donation of food cupboard essentials.

Foodbanks across the county have been supporting people throughout the pandemic by providing food parcels and more. Now, thanks to a huge donation from the University of Northampton, families will be able to access nutritious ready meals, cupboard staples, tinned fruit, and sweet treats from their local food bank.

The donation, which was over 6,000 individually packaged items, which included long life ready meals, tinned fruit and vegetables, packets of biscuits and more, was gratefully received by the Hope Centre, who will now distribute the food across Northamptonshire food banks, to where it’s needed most.

Chris Rockall, Business Development Manager at the University of Northampton said: “With the Covid-19 outbreak continuing, more people are likely to turn to a food bank for help. I’m delighted that the University has been able to arrange this donation. Our donation means foodbanks will be able to support people who need it most across Northamptonshire.”

Louise Danielczuk, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at the Hope Centre said: “The donation from the University of Northampton has been a huge boost to the Food Poverty Network and to Northampton Hope Centre’s own FoodClub. Each week we are seeing new people joining the already swelling numbers of people unable to afford to eat and now, more than ever we need to pull together, as the University have done, and support those in need.”
