The University was awarded the honour, amongst stiff competition from category finalists the University of Birmingham, Aston University, University of Leicester, and University of Derby, at the Midlands Business Awards at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham.

The award recognises outstanding performance from a university or university department, promoting entrepreneurship and social enterprise.

Vice Chancellor Professor Nick Petford commented:

Following on from our Outstanding Higher Education Institution Supporting Social Entrepreneurship award from UnLtd/Hefce and our Times Higher Education Award nomination for Entrepreneurial University of the Year, being named Midlands Enterprising University of the Year is a great honour for The University of Northampton. It is testament to the hard work we are putting in to make our social enterprise vision a reality, and the benefits this has for our students, staff and communities we work with.
