Student Halls of Residence plans available to the public

Date 27.07.2016

The University of Northampton is delighted to share its vision for the student accommodation at the exciting new Waterside Campus. Located next to the River Nene, the existing brownfield site will be developed into a state-of-the-art modern university campus – ready for the academic year starting September 2018.

The University has already received planning permission for a footbridge crossing from Becket’s Park, a vehicle bridge which will cross the River Nene from the Bedford Road onto the campus; as well as the designs for the academic and sport buildings.

Designs for the student accommodation are now available online through the consultation pages of this website until 31 July 2015, for local residents to view and comment on.

The proposed new student residences consist of a mixture of four storey shared townhouses and five storey cluster flat accommodation which feature enclose landscaped courtyards. The proposed designs draw upon the industrial heritage of the site in a contemporary way responding to the new academic buildings as well as the existing Grade II listed Engine Shed to the south of the campus.

The student residences will be located immediately adjacent to the new academic buildings and will incorporate a variety of additional facilities including a health centre, multi-faith chaplaincy, convenience store, bank and a hotel school.

These community facilities within the development are part of the university’s plans to create an open campus, providing facilities for the student population and wider community, close to the town centre.
