Fashion student’s Hunter-inspired glove designs with top prize

Date 16.11.2015

Congratulations to Fashion student Alice Chambers, who was named as the winner of the Glovers Company’s Ladies Glove Design Competition for Autumn/Winter 2015.

Alice’s brief was to design a pair of Ladies’ fashion gloves for a specific High Street store and provide a suggested retail price and trend research showing how the design and colours were inspired. After looking at several brands, Alice finally selected the Hunter Boot Company. Her glove design was inspired by Hunter’s Autumn/Winter 2015/16 clothing range and as the brand is most known for its wellies, she added the boot fastening aspect to the front of her glove design, with the colour inspired by their iconic red label.

Alice commented: “I was very happy when I read the email saying I had won a prize in the competition. I initially thought it must be for a runner up, but when I scrolled down I read my name against the Category 1 winner, I was completely overwhelmed. I could not believe that they chose my design as the winner. I am so thankful and feel really proud that my hard work and effort has paid off.”

“I am already excited to attend the Prize Giving Ceremony in London in the summer. I intend to save the prize money I have won for my final year at the University and use it towards funding my final collection.”

Dr Julie King, Head of Fashion at the University of Northampton, said: “We are delighted that Alice has won such a prestigious award from the Glovers Company, especially in the midst of very strong competition from other institutions.”

The competition is sponsored by the Glovers Company and the winners in all categories will receive cash prizes at a formal luncheon in July in a City of London Livery Hall.
