Overview


Social Work – Practice Educator Professional Standards Stage 2 offers professional development opportunities for suitably qualified Social Workers to become competent in supporting the development of student Social Workers whilst on 100-day practice placement, through supervision, assessment and critical analysis of student practice.

This Stage 2 module will further develop Practice Educator abilities, on completion, they will be able to work with students at all levels including the final placement (100-day practice placement experience).

Course Content


  • Social Work – Practice Educator Professional Standards Stage 2 engages students in the principles and concepts of the enabling of learning of others in services with children, young people, families and carers.

    The fundamental underpinning principle of the Stage 2 module is a commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) that is to further professional personal knowledge and competence and enable that of others:

    • Facilitation of current theories and models of Social Work practice.
    • Utilisation of models of facilitating learning including mentoring, coaching, management and supervision.
    • Ensuring management of time, resources and deadlines.
    • Report writing, observation and assessment skills.
    • Exhibiting enhanced competence in professional practice appropriate to engaging in developing student abilities.
    • Critically reflect upon the assessment process, considering issues of power, oppression and disagreement and how these have influenced your own learning and development.
    • Critically reflect upon your own development as a practice educator and demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the application of learning and the transfer of skills, knowledge and values to new situations as a practice educator.

    Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 23/24. The modules relating to the academic year 24/25 will be available from June 2024.

    • Candidates will have a social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England and have a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualifying experience.
    • Candidates must have successfully completed the Social Work – Practice Educator Professional Standards Stage 1 module.
    • Candidates must agree to support and assess a student on a 100-day placement.
    • Candidates must have full responsibility in supervising and assessing the student’s practice over the course of the placement.
  • 2024/25 Tuition Fees

    Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 24/25 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years.

    2023/24 Tuition Fees

    Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 23/24 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The module is assessed through the completion of a Portfolio of Evidence, which candidates need to collate throughout their teaching assessment period with a current social work student.

    The portfolio includes 2 observations of practice and an academic assignment.
