Overview
The purpose of this module is to enable students to improve their knowledge of the underlying pathophysiology of shock, and precipitating conditions of cardiovascular collapse and be able to enhance their current management strategies to prevent deterioration. Weekly themes include the principles of shock; understanding the role of the macro and microcirculation and acute traumatic coagulopathy before moving on to looking at current research, best practice, and innovations surrounding medical and traumatic cardiac arrest.
Trauma care forms part of this module, considering its role in cardiovascular collapse and improving understanding of interventions such as fluid management, positive pressure ventilation, the role of ultrasound, and pharmacology in line with current best practice.

Entry Requirements
- All applicants must be a registered healthcare clinician (HCPC, NMC etc.)
- A minimum of 100 credits at level 5
- Applicants who do not have the required 100 Credits at level 5 through certificated learning but hold an Institute of Health and Care Development (IHCD) Paramedic qualification will be credited with 60 Credits at level 5 if they are employed in contemporary clinical practice. Applicants may also make an additional claim for APEL for a maximum of 40 Credits at level 5 on the production of evidence of continuing professional development within the last two years.
