“The BA (Hons) Physical Education and Sport degree has provided me with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to pursue my dream career in teaching physical education to secondary school children. To gain the relevant experience needed for my personal development, this course has provided me with module opportunities such as work placements, as well as additional courses in first aid and coaching. These opportunities were delivered by the university and their external connections with local partners in grassroots, and elite clubs in a range of sports, and sporting organisations. These opportunities have  allowed me to develop my skills and confidence and transfer my knowledge from the classroom in to real-life situations. Alongside the work placement modules, the course syllabus is engaging and relevant with a variety of assessment types and a range of modules such as psychology, education, and coaching, all relevant to career progressions in the sporting industry.

“The classroom sessions are delivered in small classrooms with a maximum of 30 people, which made me feel less anxious and more engaged in the content being delivered. These small group sizes allowed for discussions and active involvement, which enhanced my understanding. The programme has super sports facilities which we use for the practical sessions. Alongside timetabled lectures, the sport and exercise staff provided us with opportunities to bond with our cohort of students, through practical activities and competitions. I have met lifelong friends within my cohort and felt a part of a team at the university. I have had the opportunity to meet amazing lecturers on this course and I will be forever grateful for the ongoing support from the lecturers, who have gone above and beyond in supporting me both personally and academically, throughout my three years at UON.

“I have had the honour to represent UON in Trampolining and a number of other sports, and the extracurricular clubs and societies are a fantastic way to meet new people. All these experiences and opportunities provided to me from the BA (Hons) Physical Education and Sport course have meant I am able to continue my career progression onto a PGCE course in secondary Physical Education – I would highly recommend this course for those seeking a career in sports management, coaching, psychology, and teaching.”
