  • BA (Hons) Law
  • MPhil (Comparative Constitutional Law and Practice)

I came into teaching more or less straight after obtaining my first degree and arrived at Northampton more years ago now than I care to remember after gaining some lecturing experience in further education.

Having initially been an undergraduate course leader in the Business Studies area, I then took on responsibility, in various formal guises, for undergraduate Law awards for a number of years before becoming Law Divisional Leader in September 2006. This role was extended to include History and Criminal Justice in the course of a School restructuring in 2009/10, which grouped the three subjects together into one area. My main responsibilities are therefore managerial and/or administrative, although I do have research interests in the general area of Constitutional Law and Practice (where law meets politics), in which I completed my MPhil at the University of Manchester in 1995, comparing impeachment in the United States with alternative methods of removal in the United Kingdom.

I am a reviewer for the Joint Academic Stage Board of the legal profession (the body which awards professional recognition to Law awards) and have acted as an external examiner at institutions other than the University of Northampton. I also act as an Academic Misconduct Officer for the School of Social Sciences.

Outside work, in my younger days I played amateur football to a reasonable standard and then spent several years coaching and managing a local team. I still try to watch local matches when possible, but my main leisure interests these days are walking, reading and trying to keep on top of my garden.

Undergraduate:
  • Introduction to UK and European Constitutional Law
  • Public Law
Postgraduate:
  • Comparative Constitutional Law
Constitutional Law and Practice, UK and USA
