Why did you choose your course at UON?

The University of Northampton is the only university which offers a postgraduate course in Leather Technology – my undergraduate degree was in Leather Technology and I wanted to complete a Master’s as well. I found that the ICLT (Institute of Creative Leather Technologies) at the University of Northampton is the best institution to do that. Also, they offer courses in English, which is the best for any international student.

What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most and why?

I enjoyed the teaching methods of my Tutor and the University staff were very humble, gentle and caring to all of its students. The Bachelor’s study I’d had in my home country was different, so at first I struggled a lot with my Master’s degree, but all the time my teachers were helping me. Whenever I asked for their time, they gave it and they explained to me how to write an assignment. I owe my teachers for what they have done to help me – only because of them I can step into the leather industry and without their help and support, it would be impossible to do what I’m doing now. I would highly recommend ICLT for postgraduate study.

How do you think your studies have helped your career or personal development?

My course was fully practical, rather than theoretical. I learned a lot about leather making at an advanced level which helped me to go into work within the leather industry.

Describe your career progression so far, and any plans you have for the future. Are there any particular hurdles you may face?

I’m working as a leather technologist, in the central effluent plant. I always believe in sustainability and want to work for water treatment.

Which, if any, skills and knowledge/understanding gained on your degree are most useful in your current role?

Critical analysis, which I learned while writing my assignments and is the most important skill for me. Now I can read and analyse any recent invention and can use it to develop my industry.

In one sentence, what advice would you give to undergraduates interested in this career path or anything you wish you had known earlier?

I would highly recommend to those people who wish to peruse higher study that they must choose the ICLT at Northampton.
