The first ‘I Heart Consent Week’ was run last academic year in conjunction with the Students’ Union and the University and Colleges Union. This was a successful week where issues around healthy relationships, consent and sexual harassment were discussed and debated. This year we wanted to expand the event and we are very lucky that Northampton Rape Crisis and Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council are supporting the event. The issues around healthy relationships, harassment and consent are hugely important, particularly as there has been a lot of research to suggest that these issues affect staff and students alike. There have been a number of newspaper reports recently detailing concerns about the ‘lad’ culture on campuses as well as the experience of staff and students experiencing sexual harassment. Consent is often not really understood and people often do not know what support services are available. It is therefore vitally important that we get the message across so that staff and students feel safe and know what to do and how to report sexual assault and harassment in a supportive and confidential environment.
Please see timetable below for events taking place throughout the week. All events are free but please register your attendance via the links for each event.
