Staff Profile

  • Sarah studied for her first degree in Psychology at Loughborough University and was awarded a BSc (Hons). Following on from this, she completed a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Northampton and went on to teach in a range of primary schools across Northamptonshire for 17 years. During her time as a primary teacher in schools, Sarah has had many roles including Science Lead, Mathematics Lead, Sports coaching and supporting inter-school competitions and Phase Leader for Upper KS2. Sarah’s last post in primary teaching was as an Assistant Head Teacher before joining the Initial Teacher Training team at the University of Northampton in 2018.

    Sarah’s first role in ITT alongside her teaching of BA Primary Education and PGCE students was School-based Training Lead. This involved liaising with the extensive range of schools working in partnership with the ITT BA and PGCE programmes and developing the mentor training which also included the creation of a new Partnership Website. Alongside this, Sarah also moved into the role of Programme Leader for the BA Primary Education (with QTS) course up to 2021. During this time, Sarah also achieved a Distinction in her MA in Education from the University of Northampton which included her thesis on the developing professional identity of early teachers transitioning from ITT. 

    From academic year 2022 onwards, Sarah moved into her current role of Professional Lead for QTS as well as continuing her School-based training and Partnership work and teaching across the BA Primary Education Programme with a particular focus on science. Sarah is also a School Governor for a Northamptonshire primary School and builds on her experience as a Governor at a previous primary school.

    • BAQTS Curriculum Changemaker specialising in Mixed-age classes (Year 3).
    • Sarah also supervises the dissertations of Year 3 undergraduates on the BA Primary Education (with QTS) programme.

     

    • Transition from trainee teacher to Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) and the impact on retention and recruitment in Primary Education.
    • Mentoring in schools and cohesion between University-based and School-based training.
