Research Profile

  • Sarah studied for her first degree in Psychology at Loughborough University and was awarded a BSc (Hons). Following on from this, she completed a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Northampton and went on to teach in a range of primary schools across Northamptonshire, for 17 years. Sarah had many roles within primary education including Science Lead, Mathematics Lead, coaching and supporting with inter-school sports competitions and Phase leader across upper KS2. Sarah’s last post was as an Assistant Head before joining the Initial Teacher Training team at the University of Northampton in 2018.

    Sarah is currently Programme Leader for the BA Primary Education (with QTS) course and teaches on a range of curricula areas within ITT including being a part of the Science curriculum team for both PGCE and BA Primary Education (with QTS). She is also a School Governor for a Northamptonshire primary school and has previously completed a Governance role at a different primary school.

    • BAQTS Curriculum Changemaker specialising in Mixed-age classes (Year 3).
    • Sarah also supervises the dissertations of Year 3 undergraduates on the BA Primary Education (with QTS) programme.


    • Transition from trainee teacher to Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) and the impact on retention and recruitment in Primary Education.
    • Mentoring in schools and cohesion between University-based and School-based training.
