This module will enable students to explore a range of contemporaneous risks and vulnerabilities for children and young people, individuals, families, and communities. Students will apply strategies and approaches to reduce risks and vulnerabilities and to lessen their impact on health outcomes through autonomous specialist practice.

The indicative content will explore the knowledge and understanding for reducing risks and vulnerabilities including:
There will be a focus on promoting resilience of self and others, whilst recognising the impact of legal, ethical, moral, and spiritual needs and intergenerational cycles and exploring the skills required to consider and respect the views and opinions of others when managing challenging situations in specialist practice.
Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 24/25. The modules relating to the academic year 25/26 will be available from June 2025.
As all students undertaking SCPHN need to be a first registrant with the UK’s NMC as a nurse or midwife, the applicant should already hold the relevant English Proficiency. Standard English Proficiency for PG applies.
How often do I have to attend university?
This module contains 6 taught days delivered at Waterside campus over a period of 12-13 weeks with opportunities for tutorial support.
How is teaching delivered?
Face to face in class at Waterside campus using an active blended learning teaching approach.
How will I be assessed?
This module includes an assessment strategy of a 4000 word case study.
