This Joint Honours course will provides you with an understanding and analysis of human behavior, our thoughts and emotions with the psychological theory behind them. This application of this knowledge in a business environment will help develop the understanding of the human element of business, with their working styles and how they relate to each other in an organisational setting. The business module cover a range of areas such as marketing, human resources and fiance and offers students the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills.

Course Details

The Psychology side of the course will help you if you wish to develop research in social, cognitive, biological, developmental and personality psychology due to the facilities and resources we have available.

Joint Honours in Psychology and Business can set you on a range of career paths that demand a combination of skills including organisational physical and mental health services, clinical psychology as well as more traditional business disciplines such as management, marketing and HR where psychological insight would be invaluable.  Students who want a career in Psychology must major in Psychology and ensure that they take sufficient Psychology modules to meet the requirements of British Psychological Society (BPS) Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). Academic staff will be able to advise on the best route for individual students.

Career Opportunities

There are a wide range of career opportunities for graduates, including both public and private sector employment opportunities in specific vocational areas such as marketing, IT, HRM planning and accountancy and general administrative and managerial trainee posts. In addition, Psychology is applied to many professional contexts. After further qualification, you can obtain ‘chartered’ status as a counselling, clinical, educational, occupational, health or forensic psychologist. Also, academic psychologists conduct research and teach in higher education. Northampton graduates have followed each of these careers. It is widely acknowledged by employers that psychology degrees provide an excellent grounding for a diverse range of non-psychological careers. Our graduates are employed in education, the health service, the police force, human resources management, marketing, the civil service, broadcasting, social work and many other professions.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer would be BCC at A Level or DMM at BTEC. In addition to the standard entry requirements, applicants are normally expected to hold GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4 or above, or an approved equivalent. We welcome international applications and applications from students with non-traditional educational or professional qualifications.
