Overview


This Non-Destructive Testing BSc (Hons) course builds upon the ideas explored during the Non-Destructive Testing FdSc to increase knowledge and skills which will help you in your current job and increase your career prospects. In order to complete the award, you will study four modules and complete a substantial project, to a total of 120 credits. The non-destructive testing degree is closely linked to the Personal Certificate of Non-Destructive Testing (PCN) through the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BiNDT).

This course is available via Distance Learning with a January intake.

Course Content


  • On the Non-Destructive Testing Top-Up BSc at the University of Northampton you will study advanced NDT techniques, such as corrosion analysis, thermographic testing, vibration analysis and advanced inspection techniques. An extended project is carried out as part of the course, relating to your work in NDT and focusing on your choice of topic.

    Methods of Learning

    The delivery of the non-destructive testing course, through a modular approach via distance learning, gives you the flexibility to study when you can. The course is available full-time or part-time and you can choose which modules to study at each stage.

    You can take one module as a taster to decide if the full course is for you, or just to specialist in one area.

    Modules are assessed by coursework only.

    Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 23/24. The modules relating to the academic year 24/25 will be available from June 2024.

  • Applicants will be expected to have successfully completed the Non-Destructive Testing FdSc qualification or have an equivalent professional qualification.

    English Language Requirements

    All International and EU students applying for a course with us must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

    • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands
      for study at undergraduate level.

    Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 23/24 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years.

  • How will I be taught on the Non-Destructive Testing degree?

    Our virtual learning environment facilitates constant communication between you and course leaders. You are able to access key course materials at times to suit you and can submit the assignments electronically.

    This course is closely linked to PCN certification through the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT.)

Careers and Employability


On completion of this NDT course you will be awarded a BSc Honours degree in Non-Destructive Testing.

Graduates often go on to progress through their career in Non-Destructive Testing, including managerial positions.
