Our International Hospitality Management Top-up focuses on excellence in service quality and its leadership and management within international contexts; whether it’s in the management of hotels, restaurants, spas, resorts, or other service-focused hospitality industries. The emphasis of the course is on management disciplines within the context of hospitality, the hospitality industry and its global environment, the hospitality consumer and the service encounter.

Opportunities Abroad

You will have the opportunity to participate in a study trip to a European destination. The cost of the optional trip would not normally exceed £500 for flights and accommodation. You will also need to allow an additional £100 approximately for your expenses.

The programme team also aims to provide a regional or national study trip annually to a tourism attraction or similar destination. In some cases you may be required to contribute to the cost of entry; this would normally not exceed £50.

The International Hospitality Management Top-up is designed to enhance your graduate employability in the sector by providing you with a balance of academic and vocational skills throughout your study. The course emphasises the importance of delivering service quality within the hospitality industry as a way of providing a competitive advantage in business and is strongly linked with the need for the sector to continuously innovate to order to meet customer expectations. The course ensures that you are equipped with research skills, through research and consultancy projects, so that you can gain a thorough understanding of the needs of the customer from the industry and provide excellent customer service in your future career.

Hospitality graduates can find careers in catering, conference and events management as well as in consultancy within the tourism and leisure sector, the entertainment sector, and in facilities and food service management.

You might choose to pursue a career as an Accommodation manager, Catering manager, Event organiser, Hotel manager or Restaurant manager or work in one of the many support roles within these sectors. Alternatively, you can choose to extend your education into postgraduate study.

Entry Requirements

If you have appropriate prior learning and qualifications in a relevant field of study such as Culinary and Hospitality Management, Travel and Tourism Management, Events Management and Business Management then you may be eligible for this course. Qualifications may include EDEXCEL or SQA Higher National Diploma (HND) or NCC Advanced Diploma. If you are an international student with an equivalent Diploma/degree and English Language equivalent grade 6 IELTS then you will be considered for entry onto this course.
