The Business Entrepreneurship programme looks at developing businesses from a practical perspective. You will gain a grounding in business management and build your competence in management functions such as basic accounting and business modelling.

Being in business has never been so exciting and rewarding; entrepreneurs have the ability to work across a variety of business disciplines, whether specialising in industries, consulting in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) or setting up in business.

Whatever your ambitions, we’re here to help you to achieve them. We’ll support you to identify the skills you’re learning during your course, find your strengths and secure practical experience so that when it comes to applying for jobs or further study you’ll feel confident in standing out from the crowd. Optional Work Placement Year

You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

Course Details

The three stages of the course are built around an entrepreneurial stream, exploring key learning in business start-ups, business growth and development, entrepreneurial skills, managing opportunities and entrepreneurial marketing and strategy.

You will learn about the theory and the practice of operating in the modern business environment and will obtain the skills required to work in the industry of your choice.

Experiences are central to this course. As well as guest speakers, industry experts and experienced staff, you will engage in real projects where you will be pitching for real funding to enable you to carry out your business proposal.

All International and EU students applying for a course with us must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands
    for study at undergraduate level

Admission to this course is normally DEE in A Levels or MPP at BTEC. However, we would also like to hear from you if you have professional or industry experience instead, a range of other qualifications or self-developed subject knowledge that relates to the course that you wish to study.

Special Features

Special features of studying the BA (Hons) Business Entrepreneurship include:

  • You can choose to undertake work placements of around 4-5 months duration in the summer break or work on internships a couple of days each week
  • There are numerous opportunities for work experience, many through our in-house agency Raptor Consultancy which was set up by a Marketing graduate and is now a thriving part of the University. Raptor Consultancy provides flexible, short term, cost-effective business solutions for new and growing Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) using students and graduates from the University.   • Regular input from entrepreneurs, guest speakers, and business specialists
  • links to Shaoguan University in China where previously a number of Business Entrepreneurship students visited and enjoyed experiencing life in entrepreneurial China.

New York Study Tour

Visit New York!

You will have the opportunity to join the annual New York Study Tour, to network with a variety of businesses and large organisations, plus get a behind-the-scenes experience with business and marketing professionals. Previous visits have included CNN, a film production company, a branding company and a start-up food delivery company.

The cost for the 2016 trip will be £915 per student which includes flights, accommodation, breakfast, guided study tours, travel insurance and a trip hoody.

Foundation Study Framework

Our Foundation Framework courses provide the best possible preparation for degree level study for students who are willing to learn and advance, but don’t have the standard entry qualifications. Featuring a reduced tuition fee for the first year, these course provide the opportunity for you to successfully study on the degree pathway of your choice whilst gaining essential study skills. The first year of your chosen degree will be studied over a two year period; years three and four are then studied as a standard degree programme.
