Jimmy Bricknell and Dean Alexander started Timecode Pro Ltd, a video production company, after meeting while studying at the University of Northampton. Jimmy studied HND Digital Film Making, while Dean studied BA Media Production. Both Jimmy and Dean are company Directors.
“We started Timecode Pro Ltd after we finished University. In the beginning we did a lot of work for little or no money, to build our portfolio and network. Now we are both able to receive a decent income from our business. We plan on purchasing our own business premises soon and growing the business as our workload continues to increase.
“The teaching standards at the University were really good and the staff were patient; without them we would not be doing what we’re doing now. Our courses highlighted the importance of organisation and maintaining good communication skills within a production team. These skills are paramount to each job we do, whether we’re meeting with clients face-to-face or managing the production team to meet tight deadlines.
“The work we undertake is varied; from editing and filming to following leads, sound recording, client liaison and managing budgets. We aim to create work that both we and the clients are happy with, and on occasion we get to visit exotic locations!
“Our advice for students? Be prepared to work for free for the first part of your career, expect to work late, engage with as many likeminded individuals as you can and exploit the networking opportunities at your fingertips.”
