Katie Anne Shaw – BA (Hons) Special Educational Needs and Inclusion
On the job experience
Alongside her studies, Katie Anne Shaw, is undertaking work experience in an Early Years Sure Start Children’s Centre and a special needs school, assisting with hydrotherapy sessions. She has already completed a work placement at a primary school, where she worked with children with dyslexia.
“My course will really help me choose my career route when I graduate. When I first started, I had many ideas in mind of what I wanted to do, but now I have narrowed it down to just two. Both options are very different which is why I am gaining experience in both fields to help me decide what it is I want to do.
I love my SEN course as it is very detailed and informative and provides a lot of material on the different aspects of special needs – not just in schools, but in the community and in different countries too. We also have the opportunity to travel overseas and see the way in which other countries work with special needs.
Completing a variety of work experience will allow me to see what options are available to me once I have completed my studies.”
