Penni Stanton – BA Marketing

Retraining with the University

Penni StantonPenni began her professional career as a Conformance Engineer, but after being made redundant she decided to train in something practical and business-related.

She completed her studies in 2012 in the two-year, fast track BA Marketing degree and achieved a First class honours from the University of Northampton.

“Since leaving university I’ve worked in SME’s and multinational businesses helping to establish and grow marketing departments. Working in manufacturing and ‘software as a service’ tech companies, I’ve grown lead generation with a focus on digital marketing.

I’ve also been lucky enough to work for a UK based CRM software author, where I’ve helped with product development and customer training in email marketing and marketing automation.

“I’m geeky on all things digital, and along with my partner Jo, I have set up a digital marketing consultancy which designs websites that focus on converting visitors to customers for SME’s and startups. Kabo Creative also provides digital marketing and lead generation services for anything from SME’s up to large multinationals.

“We are both repeat students of the University of Northampton and having experienced the Business School (now the Faculty of Business and Law) and the School of Arts (now the Faculty of Art, Science and Technology), we can vouch for the quality of teaching. Originally I studied BA Marketing on the two-year fast track option.

The support I received throughout the two years was incredible, and I’m still in contact with some of my tutors. Whilst university will invariably provide you with the grounding in theory, we had the opportunity to practically apply this. The University of Northampton gets students involved with real business, and several modules involved applied projects for real customers.

“I returned to the university as an evening student to study the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing. It was highly intensive around full time employment, but we received a lot of support through what is a very tough course. If I were to study again, I’d certainly return to the University of Northampton.

“Jo’s course has also been much more business focused than we had expected. Whilst the course primarily focuses on developing an artist, the lecturers have a genuine interest in helping students to prepare for life after their course.

The students have been tasked with creating websites and learning how to pitch to galleries, as well as some strong sessions on the fundamentals of setting up a business. The information on setting up a private limited company was particularly useful, as only a few months after we were taking the steps to set up Kabo Creative.”
