Economics BSc Welcome Pack

Welcome to BSc Economics 2023.

A very warm welcome from the BSc Economics team here at the University of Northampton. We are delighted that you have chosen to study Economics with us.

Our BSc Economics programme is one of the very few in the UK to adopt the CORE Curriculum. CORE introduces students to real world practical problems and utilises theories and models to explain them. We also integrate Bloomberg in our teaching and you will have the opportunity to obtain the Bloomberg Certificate free of charge.

Your BSc Economics Programme offers a wide range of microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative and other applied and development economics modules. In your first year, you will be introduced to the microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, development economics, and mathematics with statistics. In the second year, you will undertake intermediate micro and macro modules, careers in economics, behavioural economics and research methods for economics. You will have the opportunity to undertake a placement year in the industry between your second and third year. This placement will enhance your CV, it could improve your degree classification and you will gain valuable contacts in the industry. In your final year, you will be studying advanced micro and macro, econometrics as well as you will undertake a dissertation.

During your studies at the University of Northampton you could participate in events with invited guest speakers as well as in study trips. In the past, our BSc Economics students visited organisations such as the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the Bank of England and Bloomberg.
