Changemaker Certificate

The Changemaker Certificate programme has been developed to support UON’s commitment to developing knowledgeable graduates who are socially responsible.

The Changemaker Certificate pathway provides students with the opportunity to cultivate a social impact mindset, developing the essential skills and attributes necessary for them to be forward thinking, employable graduates. Each student creates their own unique route, gaining experiences that align with their personal values, interests and desired career. This enables each student to develop a real understanding of how they relate and contribute to communities.

The Changemaker Certificate is every student’s opportunity to position themselves within the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students will recognise that they have the opportunity to contribute to local and global development. Students will also gain an understanding of how being socially aware, socially innovative and socially impactful is highly valued by employers around the world.

The Changemaker Certificate is a valuable element of UON employability development, connected to the Northampton Employment Promise. By completing the Certificate, students will be able to fully articulate and evidence themselves as a changemaker, understanding how this, as a graduate outcome, is their tangible market differentiator.

  • At Level 1, students will be introduced to the world of social impact and gain an understanding of why establishing a social impact mindset is relevant to their personal and career development.

  • Changemaker Certificate Level 2 is built around students gaining practical experience through work-related learning, working with the Changemaker Team to find opportunities that suits their development goals. This experience falls into two categories, both of which can be connected to placements or projects within the curriculum.

    • Community Engagement – volunteering or paid work in the community, allowing students to contribute to an existing organisation that is creating positive impact in a community. This includes the Impact Internship Programme that offers short-term paid roles.
    • Changemaker Initiatives – developing and delivering projects, campaigns and ventures to create a positive social impact.
  • Changemaker Certificate Level 3 focuses on students articulating their development through a presentation to a panel, giving them the opportunity to share their social impact story.
