Research Profile

  • The Role of PAD2 in Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of death among all malignancies in women. Our group has data demonstrating that peptidylarginine deiminase 2 (PAD2) expression in ovarian cancer is associated with patient prognosis and represents an independent prognostic marker. PAD2 mediates citrullination of arginine to citrulline amino acids in proteins. Changes in PAD2 expression/localization within the cell may alter gene expression leading to cancer development. We are also testing the hypothesis that PAD2 expression in ovarian cancer may flag the cancer for destruction by the immune system.
