  • Developing a tool to assess temperament and personality in domestic rabbits.

    Clare is investigating individual differences in animals using behavioural and physiological measures. Her current research is investigating personality and temperament in domestic rabbits and developing a tool to assess this in pet rabbits.

    In addition to this, Clare supervises undergraduate research projects in the field of animal behaviour and welfare with topics relating to captive animal welfare and factors affecting attitudes towards animals.

  • Clare started work in zoos when she was 16 and has since progressed to complete her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Animal Management and Animal Behaviour. She has a strong interest in animal welfare research and conducting studies to improve our understanding of captive animal needs. 

    Clare has conducted research in areas of enclosure design, enrichment development and more recently an evidence based husbandry project for captive brown bears.

    Her current interests include exploring individual differences in animals to improve captive care. Her PhD involves investigating personality in rabbits and developing tools to assess this for use in rescue centres.
