Wastes Management duo to trek from Glasgow to Edinburgh, to raise money for British Heart Foundation

Date 16.11.2015

Two energetic ladies from the School of Science and Technology will be trekking 100k from Glasgow to Edinburgh next month, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Professor Margaret Bates and Ruth Copeland-Phillips will be walking non-stop for 30 hours, day and night, to arrive in Scotland’s capital. The walk will allow them to take in stunning views and landmarks including the Forth and Clyde canal, the Falkirk Wheel and Linlithgow Palace. Ruth and Margaret hope to raise over £500 for the charity.

Margaret explained why she signed up for the trek: “I totally blame Ruth!  Last year she persuaded me to do our first half marathon together, and this year she decided to step up the challenge and so we agreed on this. Both my parents have died recently but they lived longer due to heart operations.  I think the British Heart Foundation is a great cause; we should get to see some amazing scenery and Ruth will get to visit her parents (and her roots).”

The event will take place from 20-21 June. For more information, visit the British Heart Foundation website. You can sponsor Margaret and Ruth online.
