Events industry gets going again with support from UON academics

Date 22.07.2020

With business events, conferences and events centres set to restart or reopen from 1 October, academics from the University of Northampton have offered their support to the sector, through the University Events Industry Forum.

The industry forum gives professionals in the events sector in the East Midlands the chance to pick the brains of University of Northampton academics, as well as come together to share practice and ideas to kick start the industry in a post-covid world. The forum is seeking to create collaborations in learning, project development and delivery, and lobbying collectively to ensure the industry has a strong outlook as the UK economy gets on the road to recovery.

Claire Eason-Bassett, Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Events Management, who herself has a wealth of experience from working in the events sector said: “Our Events Industry Forum is an opportunity for the University to deepen our connection with the sector and to support our peers, especially now.

“As well as supporting our industry, the forum will enable our students to develop their skills and future careers through networking and work opportunities. It will also enhance the way our students understand the practical application of academic theory – for example how the industry is making the most of opportunities of virtual and hybrid events and responding to the challenges of Covid-19.”

The forum will also connect University of Northampton students studying Events, Tourism and Hospitality programmes, with experts from the industry for networking and employment opportunities.

Charlotte Patrick, Key Sector and Knowledge Transfer Manager at the University of Northampton’s Research and Innovation Funding Support team, who manages the University Industry led forums said: “The region benefits from a large and diverse conferencing and events industry, as well as some well-known large venues.  The Forums hosted by the University are a great place to tap into sector knowledge and best practice, it’s also a place where business can creatively problem solve together. It’s an opportunity not to be missed.”

The forum will virtually meet on a monthly basis and is open to anyone working in or with the events sector in the region. To register an interest please email Claire Eason-Bassett.
