Dr Lee Machado - Board of Governors member

Dr Lee Machado was elected Academic Staff governor nominated by the Senate.

Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry in the Faculty of Health and Society, co-leader of the Ageing Research Centre (ARC) in the Institute of Health and Wellbeing and honorary Fellow in the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester.

Lee has more than 15 years’ experience in biomedical research, having worked at the Institute for Cancer Studies (Birmingham), the Medical Research Council Toxicology unit (Leicester) and the Department of Genetics (Leicester) before working as a senior scientist for the cancer vaccine company, Scancell (Nottingham); Lee came to the University of Northampton as a Lecturer in 2013.

Lee teaches on the human bioscience and biology programmes and his academic research is focused on understanding how the host immune system responds to pathogens and cancer. The aim of this work is to increase our understanding of human health and disease and develop new treatments.
