Gemma was elected President of the University of Northampton Students’ Union in 2019, having served as Vice President Education during 2018/19. In her role as President, Gemma leads the elected officers of the Students’ Union and is responsible for its financial management, represents the Students’ Union internally and externally and represents students, ensuring that services are relevant to their needs.
Gemma joined the University of Northampton as a mature student. She studied a joint honours course in Health Studies with Social Care, achieving a First-Class degree with Honours. Before joining the University, Gemma worked in the NHS for a decade which, along with her degree, helped to develop effective communication skills and an ability and passion for championing the needs of others.
Gemma has previously volunteered for the Students’ Union as a Course Representative and then later as a Faculty Representative, giving student feedback at faculty-level meetings. Gemma is enthusiastic about joining the Board of Governors at an exciting time as the University settles into the Waterside campus and explores the new opportunities it brings, especially for the development of new teaching styles and student support services.
