As the UK’s only university to integrate leather technology with fashion, marketing, business and environmental concerns, we are proud to house an on-campus working tannery for practical leather making as well as laboratories to enable leather testing.

Undergraduate Leather Programmes

For those interested in a technological or scientific qualification that will lead to an opportunity to work and travel within a manufacturing industry, the benefits offered by Leather Technology BSc (Hons) are outstanding.

This one year course allows you to progress from our Leathersellers’ Certificate. The knowledge and experience you will gain from this course will allow you to find work in the leather industry at various stages of the leather supply chain.

If you are already working in the leather industry, this course will help you to develop your skills. You will be taught by experts in the field, covering a comprehensive overview of leather science and technology, and combining theory and practice over the course of 12 weeks.

If you already have some experience or qualifications in the leather industry, this course will help you top that up to a full degree.

This one year full-time course is the perfect introduction to help you go straight into the leather industry. You will get a thorough grounding in leather and its requirements through a practical approach in our laboratories, underpinned by essential theory.

Postgraduate Leather Programmes

Our unique MSc in Leather Technology (Professional) will give you the opportunity to enhance your technical skills. We encourage you to develop intellectual creativity and we will provide you with the skills you need to research advanced technologies.

This course is a way for you to develop a specialism in the leather industry and improve your technical skills. While developing and setting up research projects, you will initially receive general, discipline based and project specific training so that you can go on to conduct your research work effectively and independently.

This 12 week professional course will further enhance your critical and analytical knowledge of leather manufacture, finishing and related issues. The programme aims to develop your existing knowledge of leather making, problem solving and sustainability.

This six-week professional course will further enhance your critical and analytical knowledge of leather manufacture and finishing.

This 6 week course, delivered in 2 week blocks throughout the year, helps develop your existing knowledge of automotive leather finishing.
