Essential Teaching Technology for Academics

Mode of delivery: Face to face

Length of Session: Two and a half hours face to face workshop

This workshop forms part of the Academic Staff Induction Programme and is key to getting off on the right foot with using NILE and submitting, marking and grading work electronically.

What staff need(s) will the workshop meet?

  • I need to understand what NILE is and how to use it effectively within Learning and Teaching
  • How can I make sure I complete the submission and grading workflow through NILE
  • What support is available for further development?
  • I would like to update myself on current policy and practice relating to NILE, particularly because I have taken on new course responsibilities.

Through this you will...

This session will provide you with an introduction to NILE (Northampton Integrated Learning Environment) which is used as part of all Learning and Teaching at Northampton.

You will participate in the event both online and in face to face to experience NILE from both the staff and student experience.

Submission and grading electronically will be demonstrated and you will have an opportunity to practice this on your own site.

Specific skills

A4

The session will take you through the process of developing effective learning environments on NILE.  You will know how to support and guide students through their use of NILE.

Core Knowledge

K4

You will know how to use NILE effectively for learning, teaching and assessment.

K6

Quality assurance and enhancement will be covered through a module checklist based on the NILE quality audit.

You are encouraged to focus in your planning on the student learning experience including to meet the needs of different groups.

V4

This workshop helps to develop your personal digital skills, essential for life in the contemporary world.

Supporting HEA fellowship

D1 - Associate Fellow of the HEA Staff with at least 1 year teaching/support experience. Typically these are staff who do some teaching/student support but not as the main element of their role, such as
  • Career researchers with some teaching responsibilities
  • Learning support, demonstrators or technicians with some teaching responsibilities
  • Staff experienced in professional areas but with a limited teaching role
D2 - Fellow of the HEA Staff for whom teaching or learning support is a significant element of their role such as staff with experience as
  • Academic or Support staff holding substantive teaching & learning responsibilities
  • Experienced professionals with substantive teaching & learning responsibilities including for example within workplace settings
D3 - Senior Fellow of the HEA Experienced HE teaching staff able to demonstrate sustained impact & influence on the L&T practice of others over a number of years, through
  • Leading, managing, organising programmes
  • Mentoring other staff
  • Departmental, School or other University responsibilities
