Food waste is a key area of focus for the EU’s Circular Economy package. In the UK, some 7.3 million tonnes of food from households is wasted annually. The healthcare sector serves over 1,047 million meals in 19,500 outlets every year. It produces 121,000 tonnes of food waste and 49,300 tonnes of associated packaging waste, with some 93% of this going to landfill or disposed of down the drain using macerators. Therefore, the sustainable management of food waste within the healthcare and related hospitality sectors is a key issue, in order to move towards a more circular approach. Using a range of speakers and case studies, this one day conference to be held on Thursday 5 October, at Northampton Town Football Club, Sixfields Stadium, will explore the sustainable management of food waste in the healthcare, retail and hospitality sectors. It should be of interest to those working in the areas of catering, procurement, and resources management from these target sectors, as well as councils, environmental consultancies and academia.
