Library and Learning Services (LLS) presents…Tania Salam, Research Support Assistant

Why does the media often portray Muslims so negatively?

Islam is believed to be a religion of peace, justice and equality. Islam has the religious teaching that there is only one God (Allah), and that Muhammad is the final messenger of God. It is the world’s second largest religion with over 1.8 billion followers.

So why is it that we often find Muslims are portrayed in a pessimistic view to the world via the media?

This talk will give the audience an insight into Islamophobia and why the media at times portrays Islam in a negative light. The impact this is having on society today will be discussed and we will consider ways that we can reduce the negative stereotype of Muslims.
